Optara (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Optara web application and Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Optara is designed to help users save products from across the internet into organized wishlist boards.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an Optara account, we may collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • Authentication credentials via Google OAuth or email/password
  • Profile preferences created during onboarding

This information is required to create and manage your account.

Wishlist Data

When you save items using Optara, we store the following information associated with your account:

  • Product URL
  • Product title
  • Product image
  • Product price and currency
  • Website domain
  • Board and tag selections
  • Item status (active, bought, archived)

This data is necessary for Optara's core functionality.

Website Content Access (Chrome Extension)

The Optara Chrome extension reads limited information from webpages only when a user activates the extension. This may include:

  • Product title
  • Product image
  • Product price
  • Product URL

This information is used only to populate wishlist items and is not used to track browsing behavior. Optara does not continuously monitor browsing activity.

Anonymous Reaction Data

When users view public shared boards, we may store anonymous emoji reactions associated with items. To prevent duplicate reactions, we may store a non-identifiable browser fingerprint hash. This data does not identify individual users.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide Optara's wishlist functionality
  • Save and organize items across user boards
  • Allow users to share boards publicly
  • Maintain account authentication and sessions
  • Improve product performance and reliability

We do not use user data for advertising profiling or unrelated purposes.

Data Sharing

Optara does not sell, rent, or trade user data.

We only share data with trusted service providers necessary to operate the service, such as:

  • Supabase (authentication and database services)
  • Infrastructure providers required to host the application

These providers only process data on our behalf.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect user data, including:

  • Secure authentication via Supabase
  • Row-level database security to isolate user data
  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Access controls limiting internal data access

Users can only access their own saved items and boards.

Public Boards

Users may choose to make boards public.

When a board is public:

  • Anyone with the share link can view the board and its items
  • Visitors may leave anonymous emoji reactions

Users can disable public sharing at any time.

Data Retention

We retain user data as long as an account remains active.

Users may delete their account or remove items at any time, which removes the associated data from Optara systems.

Chrome Extension Permissions

The Optara extension uses the following Chrome permissions:

  • activeTab — to access product information on the current webpage when activated by the user
  • tabs — to identify the active tab URL for item saving
  • storage — to store authentication session data locally
  • host permissions — to extract product metadata from supported websites

These permissions are used solely to provide Optara's wishlist functionality.

What Optara Does NOT Collect

Optara does not collect:

  • Browsing history
  • Personal communications
  • Financial or payment information
  • Health information
  • Location data
  • Keystrokes or mouse activity

The extension only processes webpage data when the user chooses to save a product.

User Controls

Users may:

  • Delete saved items
  • Archive boards
  • Disable public board sharing
  • Delete their account

These actions remove associated user data from Optara systems.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised Last Updated date.
